Hi, It's great effort the team put on MSBuild Extension task for creating apppools, websites but couldn't see the implementation to create applications in IIS7.0 but the implementation is there to delete and modify the applications. Please add up the support to create the applications also. Thank!!!

CONFIGURING INTELLISENSE

Please note that there is a bug in Visual Studio that reduces the ability to use IntelliSense with MSBuild tasks. Full details are provided in the following blog post: Providing IntelliSense for the MSBuild Extension Tasks

COPY THE SCHEMA FILES

a. Copy all the .xsd files for which you require Intellisense

From:

%ProgramFiles%\MSBuild\ExtensionPack

To:

%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Xml\Schemas\1033\MSBuild

REGISTER THE SCHEMA

b. Open

%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Xml\Schemas\1033\Microsoft.Build.xsd

c. Add the appropriate bold lines below (i.e. for each file you have chosen to copy). DO NOT add an include for files you have not copied.

INSTALLATION

When using the MSI installer, the default installation path is

Note*: if you do not install the MSBuild Extension Pack to the default installation path, you will need to alter the MSBuild.ExtensionPack.tasks file as it refers to $(MSBuildExtensionsPath) which always refers to %PROGRAMFILES%.

A shortcut will be created in your Start Menu for quick access to this Help file and the Home Page:

The MSBuild Extension Pack implements a TaskAction based design which aims to improve usability and maintenance whilst reducing the code base, e.g. to start or stop a website, typically two task files would be created to perform each task, whereas the MSBuild Extension Pack accomplishes this in a single task file using TaskAction=”Stop” and TaskAction=”Start”.

Each task is documented and provided with an example in the help file, which is also available online at www.msbuildextensionpack.com. Where applicable, tasks are remote enabled, simply specify a MachineName with optional credentials and the task will target the remote machine.

Each task is also provided with an IntelliSense schema file to improve developer productivity in the Visual Studio IDE.

The numbering is confusing. I'm assuming because system requirements on the right say only .NET 3.5 is required, that version 4.0 also only requires 3.5. So why are there two packages? How do I know which one I should use?

A was unable to add intellisense support to Visual Studio 2010 SP1 for MSBuild Extension Pack. I applied the algorithm of adding intellisense support of MSBuild Extension Pack as it is written in codeplex(http://msbuildextensionpack.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=IntelliSense&referringTitle=Documentation) for Visual Studio 2008(except registering the schemas not in Microsoft.Build.xsd but in Microsoft.Build.Commontypes.xsd ), but it does not work. What should I do to fix the problem?

I think that you will see your ProgramFiles Environment Variable is set to "C:\Program Files" and not to ProgramFiles(x86)=C:\Program Files (x86). That is the actual installation path as far as I can see on my Svr2008 (using 3.5) machine. Perhaps this may be your issue. I simple dbl-clicked on the msi to install.
